Indonesia's Economic and Climate Health Investarians Will Stay Awake Until 2019

Buletin Nasional. Indonesia's economic health and investment climate are believed to be maintained and conducive in 2019. The reason is that the current account deficit (CAD) is projected to decline. While the flow of investment funds from within and outside the country will remain strong.

Chief Economist of PT Bank Mandiri Tbk (BMRI) Anton Gunawan stated, the effect of global sentiment is that the flow of foreign investor funds tends to be limited. However, the health of the Indonesian economy is still quite good. He projected, in 2019 Indonesia's economic growth could still grow 5-5.1 percent and the inflation rate ranged from 4.5 percent.

"In terms of CAD it should, it could improve next year. Well, in terms of financial markets even though challenges still exist because the normalization of the Federal Reserve (Fed) has only ended in 2020, but lately there has been a reversal of investor funds," Anton said in during the Indonesia Investment Conference Exhibition in Jakarta, Wednesday (11/21).

The senior researcher in the Indonesian economy at the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) Poltak Hotradero said, so far the flow of funds from foreign investors is still in a year-to-date (YtD) net sell condition. But in the same period, the flow of investment funds from foreign investors in the state debt securities market (SUN) remained in a positive condition or net buy.

Reviewing the stock trading transactions on the IDX until October 19, foreign investors' total net sell reached Rp 44.79 trillion. The net sell position has fallen by Rp 12.95 trillion, compared to the net sell position of Rp 57.72 trillion on October 12, 2018. The decline in net sell occurred after several times foreign investors began to return to the stock market.

To support the entry of funds from domestic and foreign investors, according to Poltak, IDX encouraged the addition of new products, both in terms of issuers or other capital market products, including new derivative products that could help hedging stocks or SUN in Indonesia.

"Hopefully, the new product will launch in 2019 and can help maintain the portfolio risk of foreign investors, as well as investment managers in Indonesia.
